Number Nineteen 19

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded in Japan, 'Number Nineteen' captures the pianist's signature dark, brooding intensity in a sparse, exploratory acoustic setting. Mal Waldron's compositions heavily emphasize repetitive, rhythmic left-hand motifs offset by angular, dissonant right-hand improvisations. It stands as a brilliant showcase of his wholly unique, deeply hypnotic approach to modern jazz.
