Why?

Album Notes & Community Reviews

'Why?' is the pioneering debut album by Catalan band Máquina!, widely considered the first progressive rock record produced in Spain. Recorded at Estudios Gema during the cultural constraints of Francisco Franco's dictatorship, the group notably sang in English and adopted an improvisational, blues-infused psychedelic style to subvert the contemporary Spanish pop scene. Featuring a famous 'croissant' cover designed by vocalist Jordi Batiste, the release remains a culturally significant artifact of the Spanish underground music movement.
