Fascinated by unsolved mysteries and reruns of true-crime television during quarantine, the gothic-folk songwriter composed an intensely atmospheric collection of murder ballads and disappearance narratives. The record expands her typically sparse sound by incorporating ghostly synthesizers and extensive guest musicians, including Emma Ruth Rundle. The result is a beautifully eerie, dreamlike meditation on mortality and transformation.
