Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded shortly after Nat King Cole's tragic death, this album fulfills Marvin Gaye's long-standing desire to step out of the R&B mold and establish himself as a sophisticated pop crooner. Arranged with sweeping strings and big band flourishes, Gaye's smooth tenor carefully navigates Cole's classic repertoire without mimicking his distinct baritone. While historically overshadowed by his soul classics, it highlights his immense vocal versatility.
