The New York jazz-funk trio perfected their highly groove-oriented, improvisational jam-band aesthetic on their breakthrough third album. John Medeski's remarkably funky Hammond organ and clavinet lines completely anchor the loose, highly syncopated rhythms, successfully bridging avant-garde jazz with accessible, danceable funk. It firmly established their reputation as leading figures in the 1990s instrumental jam-band scene.
