Following the tumultuous departure of erratic original frontman David Baker, guitarist Jonathan Donahue reluctantly assumed lead vocal duties. The resulting record is an incredibly dense, wildly unpredictable fusion of chaotic noise-pop, orchestral jazz elements, and swirling psychedelia. It marks a profound, experimental transition period for the band before they streamlined their sound for late-90s commercial success.
