Departing significantly from the sweeping, orchestral dream-pop of their 1990s masterpieces, the veteran alternative band heavily embraces glitchy electronica and ambient synthesizers on their seventh album. The record features Jonathan Donahue's fragile, whispered vocals floating over frantic, IDM-inspired drum programming and icy digital textures, creating a disorienting, wintry atmosphere. An entirely instrumental companion album, 'Snowman in Clear', was released as a free download alongside it.
