Loss of Life
by MGMT
On their fifth album 'Loss of Life', MGMT shifts from overt psychedelia towards a more restrained, melodically focused sound influenced by 80s soft-rock and Britpop. Produced by the band with Patrick Wimberly and featuring contributions from Daniel Lopatin and Dave Fridmann, the album's rich arrangements and acoustic textures support a newfound lyrical earnestness. Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser explore themes of love, acceptance, and mortality with a vulnerable and introspective tone, largely moving away from the irony that defined their earlier work.
