Album Notes & Community Reviews

Formed by American GIs stationed in Germany, the Monks discarded standard beat music tropes in favor of abrasive, rhythm-heavy minimalism driven by an amplified six-string banjo and tribal drumming. Their lyrical focus on the Cold War and anti-establishment themes directly anticipates the aggressive posture of the punk movement.
