Following his departure as the original bassist for Emperor, Håvard Ellefsen (under the moniker Mortiis) effectively invented the dungeon synth subgenre with this dark ambient project. Composed entirely of two sprawling, highly repetitive medieval synthesizer suites, the album pioneered a lo-fi, fantasy-driven aesthetic that deeply resonated within the black metal underground.
