Album Notes & Community Reviews

Debuting as a primary bandleader, the Mississippi-born pianist and vocalist draws heavily from his rural roots to compose an evocative, ten-part conceptual suite. The project brilliantly fuses sophisticated modern jazz harmony with deep, unvarnished Delta blues feeling, occasionally introducing his uniquely relaxed, conversational singing style. The sophisticated yet incredibly earthy approach made him a highly influential, singular voice connecting traditional Americana with the hard bop idiom.
