Album Notes & Community Reviews

Expanding his usual trio format with the addition of a brass section featuring Jimmy Knepper and Frankie Dunlop, Mose Allison delivers his signature, highly idiosyncratic brand of Southern jazz. 'Swingin' Machine' expertly blends the rustic, cynical lyricism of Delta blues with incredibly sharp, bebop-inflected piano arrangements. His relaxed, drawling vocal delivery heavily influenced the incoming generation of British rhythm and blues vocalists.
