With their seventh album, 'Drones', Muse deliberately returned to a more direct, guitar-driven hard rock sound, stripping away the orchestral and electronic layers of their prior two releases. Co-produced with Robert "Mutt" Lange, the album’s sound is built on a powerful trio-performance dynamic, emphasizing heavy riffs and a cohesive rhythm section. A concept album that won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, it narrates a protagonist's journey from abandonment and indoctrination as a "human drone" to eventual defection, serving as a metaphorical critique of modern warfare and the loss of empathy.
