Album Notes & Community Reviews
Experimenting with a uniquely dense, entirely brass front line, the cornetist is joined by Slide Hampton on trombone and Laymon Jackson on tuba. The thick, incredibly warm horn voicings provide a remarkably soulful, deeply swinging backdrop for the leader's bright, agile improvisations. The recording is a highly successful, structurally inventive variation of the standard hard bop format.
