Sam Jones

A prolific and soulful hard bop bassist, Sam Jones was known for his big, bluesy tone and an impeccable sense of swing. He is best known for his long and fruitful tenure with the Cannonball Adderley Quintet, where he was a foundational part of their earthy, soul-jazz sound. Also a fine cellist, Jones contributed several compositions to the jazz canon, including the standard 'Unit 7.' He was a first-call bassist who anchored countless sessions with artists like Wes Montgomery and Cedar Walton.
