Album Notes & Community Reviews
'Consentrik Quartet' features guitarist Nels Cline leading an ensemble with saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, bassist Chris Lightcap, and drummer Tom Rainey, focusing on Cline's wide-ranging compositions. The album showcases a profound chemistry and interplay, shifting from spacious, atmospheric soundscapes and chamber pieces to intense, hard-bop rhythms and free improvisation. With a sound that evokes adventurous 1960s post-bop while remaining forward-thinking, the quartet balances intricate compositional structure with moments of spontaneous, rock-influenced energy.
