Originally recorded in 1981 but plagued by intense legal disputes and theft of the master tapes, this project was entirely re-recorded for this slightly altered release. 'The Drama of Exile' steps away from the bleak, harmonium-driven dirges of the former Velvet Underground chanteuse's 1970s output, embracing jagged post-punk rhythms and Middle Eastern melodic scales. The tense, chaotic production vividly reflects the severe personal and chemical turbulence that characterized her itinerant lifestyle during this period.
