As the Britpop movement definitively fractured, the Birmingham quartet deliberately embraced significantly more somber, heavily acoustic-oriented songwriting on their fourth studio album[cite: 1]. While retaining their trademark highly melodic pop hooks, the record heavily downplays the upbeat energy of their earlier hits in favor of noticeably slower, deeply reflective neo-psychedelia and folk-rock arrangements[cite: 1].
