Conceived as a "speculative autobiography," 'Again' finds Daniel Lopatin creating a dialogue between his present artistic self and his musical identity as a young adult. The album filters shoegaze, post-rock, and modern composition through fragmented electronic production, blending orchestral arrangements and AI-generated textures with organic contributions from musicians like Lee Ranaldo and Jim O'Rourke. This results in a dense and often dissonant collage of prog-synth passages and '90s alt-rock gestures, forming an illogical and surreal period piece.
