Album Notes & Community Reviews
Stepping out of his foundational role as the premier bassist for Miles Davis, the young prodigy leads a stellar East Coast ensemble featuring John Coltrane and Philly Joe Jones. Showcasing his incredibly rare, highly virtuosic arco (bowed) soloing technique alongside his massive, deeply swinging pizzicato lines, he definitively establishes the upright bass as a viable, formidable lead instrument. The deeply swinging session is a vital, high-energy cornerstone of the hard bop idiom.
