Paul Chambers

Paul Chambers was the preeminent hard bop bassist of the 1950s and 60s, famed for his impeccable time, resonant tone, and pioneering arco (bowed) solos. As the anchor of the first great *Miles Davis* Quintet from 1955 to 1963, he was a fixture on countless landmark recordings, including 'Kind of Blue'. A prolific session musician for labels like #Blue Note# and #Prestige#, he also led his own dates, releasing classic albums such as 'Whims of Chambers' and 'Bass on Top'. His influential style and virtuosic improvisations made him a foundational figure, and his work with the *Wynton Kelly* Trio further cemented his legacy.
