Album Notes & Community Reviews

The legendary Duke Ellington tenor saxophonist steps out for a vibrant solo session heavily infused with bluesy, groove-oriented arrangements. His famously breathy, serpentine soloing approach is framed by a punchy, highly responsive rhythm section that pushes him toward harder, grittier phrasing. The album beautifully captures his idiosyncratic improvisational genius operating outside of massive orchestral constraints.
