Album Notes & Community Reviews
With his debut album as a leader for Impulse!, Pharoah Sanders announced himself as a primary new voice of spiritual jazz. The epic, two-part piece 'Upper Egypt & Lower Egypt' is a foundational text of the movement, establishing a blueprint for a musical journey that moves from meditative mystery to ecstatic, cathartic release. Sanders's signature saxophone sound鈥攔aw, vocalized, and deeply spiritual鈥攊s on full display.
