A titan of spiritual and free jazz, tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders was revered for his raw, cathartic, and deeply expressive sound. Initially gaining prominence in the mid-1960s as a key member of *John Coltrane's* later ensembles on albums like 'Ascension', he forged a revolutionary path. As a bandleader, his work for the #Impulse!# label, especially the 1969 album 'Karma' featuring the epic 'The Creator Has a Master Plan', defined the spiritual jazz movement. His distinctive use of overblowing, multiphonics, and a vocally-inflected tone influenced generations. His celebrated late-career collaboration, 'Promises', with *Floating Points* and the *London Symphony Orchestra*, introduced his transcendent sound to a new audience.
