In an uncharacteristic attempt to craft a commercially viable, radio-friendly studio record, the legendary Vermont jam band reeled in their sprawling improvisations for 'Hoist'. Featuring a multitude of guest stars, including Alison Krauss and the Tower of Power horn section, the album successfully polished their eclectic blend of funk, country, and progressive rock into concise, highly melodic pop structures.
