For their ninth studio album, the veteran Scottish rock band enlisted producers Björn Yttling and Paul Epworth to craft a sleek, surprisingly pop-oriented sound. Featuring guest appearances by Lovefoxxx, Josh Homme, and Linda Thompson, the record pivots away from their previous country-rock detour into bright, synthesizer-driven alternative dance. It showcased a decidedly upbeat, accessible facade that masked Bobby Gillespie's typically cynical lyricism.
