Biography

Primal Scream are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1982 by Bobby Gillespie and *Jim Beattie*. Key figures in the mid-1980s indie pop scene, they broke through when acid house reshaped their sound on 'Screamadelica' (1991), winner of the first Mercury Prize, and have since moved through blues rock, dub, trip hop and industrial styles across twelve studio albums, most recently 'Come Ahead' (2024). The current core is Gillespie, guitarist Andrew Innes and drummer Darrin Mooney, following the deaths of keyboardist Martin Duffy (2022) and bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield (2025) and the departure of bassist Simone Butler in January 2026.
