Luis Advis composed the cantata in 1969, and Quilapay煤n's recording, narrated by actor H茅ctor Duvauchelle, spreads the story across eighteen sections, five of them spoken. It recounts the massacre of striking nitrate workers at the Santa Mar铆a school in Iquique on 21 December 1907, and it became a landmark of the Nueva Canci贸n Chilena.
