Radiohead's 'Kid A' marked a dramatic departure from their guitar-based rock, embracing a minimalist and textured electronic sound informed by krautrock, jazz, and 20th-century classical music. Working with producer Nigel Godrich, the band employed synthesizers, drum machines, and the ondes Martenot, while Thom Yorke's abstract, often fragmented lyrics and digitally processed vocals enhanced the album's themes of anxiety and technological detachment.
