Raphael F. Sharpe, a Tulsa-born pianist who studied at the San Francisco Conservatory and spent ten years as a teacher and musician at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, composed the album as music for healing and meditation. Built around the nine-minute 'Surrender', later anthologized on the sampler 'Universe 2', it is a defining entry in the temple ambient catalogue of Hearts of Space; a sequel, 'Music to Disappear In II', followed three years later.
