Album Notes & Community Reviews
Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio and issued as one of the earliest titles on the newly formed Impulse! imprint, 'Genius + Soul = Jazz' features Ray Charles primarily playing the Hammond B-3 organ. Arranged by Quincy Jones and Ralph Burns, the instrumental-focused session successfully merged rhythm and blues with large-ensemble jazz.
