Album Notes & Community Reviews
Marking the sole studio appearance of guitarist Dave Navarro, 'One Hot Minute' is a notable deviation from the band's established funk-rock sound, incorporating heavier, psychedelic, and metallic textures. This darker musical direction reflects the album's lyrical themes, which candidly explore frontman Anthony Kiedis's relapse into drug addiction, loss, and melancholy. The altered creative dynamic resulted in a more fraught writing process but also featured bassist Flea contributing lyrics and lead vocals for the first time.
