Music for (Onmyo-Ji)

Album Notes & Community Reviews

A two-disc set created for Reiko Okano's manga adaptation of Baku Yumemakura's 'Onmyōji', the album's first disc presents the gagaku ensemble Reigakusha, under musical director Sukeyasu Shiba, performing compositions in the Heian court tradition, while the second gives Brian Eno and J. Peter Schwalm's ambient responses. The pairing sets Japan's oldest orchestral tradition against contemporary electronic practice without forcing either into the other's grammar.
