Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded in London during a period of intense band friction and homesickness, this album is a murky, deeply mysterious turn for the Southern alternative rock pioneers. R.E.M. slows their typical jangle-pop tempos, introducing string arrangements and banjo to craft a gloomy, heavily pastoral, and distinctly Southern gothic atmosphere. 'Fables of the Reconstruction' is a cryptic, beautifully melancholic, and deeply nocturnal record.
