Recorded in a mere two weeks, R.E.M.'s sophomore release captures the raw, energetic momentum of their live performances while refining their signature jangle-pop sound. Peter Buck's chiming, Byrds-esque Rickenbacker guitars perfectly frame Michael Stipe's increasingly melodic, albeit still cryptic and abstract, vocal delivery. 'Reckoning' is a deeply poetic, bittersweet, and historically vital pillar of American college rock.
