Ongaku zukan
by Ryuichi Sakamoto
Following the dissolution of Yellow Magic Orchestra, Sakamoto's fourth solo endeavor is an eclectic compilation of instrumental tracks assembled over a year-and-a-half period. Also known as 'Musical Encyclopedia', the project bridges the gap between sophisticated avant-pop and progressive electronic exploration utilizing the cutting-edge Fairlight CMI synthesizer. The compositions drift seamlessly between breezy, jazz-inflected pop and complex neo-classical arrangements.
