Biography
Japanese composer and pianist who co-founded *Yellow Magic Orchestra* in 1978 and reshaped electronic pop while building a parallel solo career from 'Thousand Knives' (1978). His film scores, including Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence and the Oscar-winning 'The Last Emperor' (1987), made him world cinema's most sought-after Japanese composer. Later piano and ambient works, up to 'async' (2017), preceded his death in Tokyo in 2023.
