Album Notes & Community Reviews

Produced by her then-husband T Bone Burnett, the singer-songwriter's second secular album is an immaculately crafted collection of sophisticated pop-rock. Featuring highly distinctive, swirling guitar contributions from Elvis Costello, 'Cruel Inventions' matches Beatlesque melodies with sharp, literate lyricism.
