Album Notes & Community Reviews

The brilliant debut album from multi-instrumentalist and composer Sam Rivers. Backed by a phenomenal rhythm section that included his Miles Davis bandmates Ron Carter and Tony Williams, Rivers showcases his unique 'inside-outside' approach. The music is rooted in sophisticated post-bop structures but the improvisations, particularly from Rivers, dart seamlessly between respecting the harmony and soaring freely beyond its constraints, blurring the lines between the mainstream and the avant-garde.
