On 'Shamblemaths 2', the Norwegian duo offers a dark and complex evolution of their '70s-indebted progressive rock, blending the angular dissonance of King Crimson with atmospheric, Scandinavian-folk sensibilities. The album is characterized by its intricate compositions, which feature a dense interplay of vintage keyboards like Mellotron, prominent and varied saxophone work, and a dynamic rhythmic foundation. Contrasting moments of chaotic instrumentation with haunting male and female vocal passages, the arrangements also incorporate elements of classical music, including a rock interpretation of a Shostakovich string quartet.
