Pygmalion
by Slowdive
Slowdive's third album, 'Pygmalion', represents a significant departure from the band's signature shoegaze style, favoring a minimalist and highly experimental electronic sound. Primarily composed by Neil Halstead, the record features sparse, atmospheric arrangements built on digital loops and ambient textures, often eschewing traditional song structures and percussion. Though largely overlooked and commercially unsuccessful upon its 1995 release, leading to the band being dropped by their label, 'Pygmalion' has since been critically re-evaluated as a masterpiece of ambient pop and a forerunner of the post-rock genre.
