Album Notes & Community Reviews

Following the acrimonious split of Uncle Tupelo, Jay Farrar assembled this new outfit to further pursue his distinctively melancholic, traditionalist vision of American roots music. The record seamlessly balances searing, distortion-heavy alternative rock with stark, acoustic ballads driven by fiddle and pedal steel. It was immediately hailed as a defining, critically triumphant pillar of the burgeoning 1990s alt-country movement.
