Biography
Son Volt is the alternative country band Jay Farrar formed in St. Louis in 1994 after *Uncle Tupelo* split, carrying that band's folk, country and rock mixture into a quieter, more haunted register. The 1995 debut 'Trace' is an alt-country landmark. After a hiatus, Farrar rebuilt Son Volt with new musicians in 2004 and has kept it his main vehicle ever since, through albums such as 'Okemah and the Melody of Riot', 'American Central Dust', 'Union' and 'Electro Melodier'.
