Ghost Tropic

Album Notes & Community Reviews

Recorded by Mike Mogis, 'Ghost Tropic' marked a departure for Songs: Ohia, moving toward a more sparse, atmospheric, and transportive sound. The album is structured around lengthy, slowly developing songs characterized by Jason Molina's somber vocals, minimalist arrangements with ethnic percussion, and a pervasive, haunting mood that diverges from traditional Americana into something more akin to experimental folk. The album's eight tracks, including two short instrumental title tracks, create a dislocated and hypnotic listening experience, prioritizing space and ethereal textures over conventional song structures.
