Marking the final release under the Songs: Ohia name, 'The Magnolia Electric Co.' is a pivotal album that also functions as the de facto debut of Jason Molina's subsequent, eponymous band. Recorded live in the studio by Steve Albini, the album pivots from sparser arrangements to a full-throated, country-rock and Americana sound, defined by a raw, immediate energy and a dense instrumental palette of lap steel, piano, and multiple guitars.
