East Broadway Run Down

Album Notes & Community Reviews

A monumental album that captures the sound of a hard bop titan grappling directly with the avant-garde. On the sprawling, 20-minute title track, Sonny Rollins pushes his own improvisational limits, sparring with the chaotic, free-flowing drumming of Elvin Jones and the deep, modal bass of Jimmy Garrison. It's a pivotal and daring performance that shows a foundational master stepping into the fire of the new music entirely on his own terms.
