Jimmy Garrison

Biography

A bassist whose powerful, resonant tone and deep rhythmic sense made him the anchor of John Coltrane's classic quartet. Garrison was renowned for his use of drone-like pedal points and his percussive, guitar-like strumming, which provided a foundational and harmonic anchor for the quartet's most adventurous explorations.
