Exotic Creatures of the Deep
by Sparks
Continuing the massive creative renaissance initiated by 'Lil' Beethoven', the Mael brothers deliver an incredibly bombastic, structurally absurd collection of avant-garde pop. The songs revolve around obsessively repeated lyrical phrases, operatic piano, and bizarre conceptual narratives involving talking monkeys and hallucinated pregnancies. It proved the veteran duo's capacity for sharp, brilliant eccentricity remained entirely undiminished nearly forty years into their career.
