Pulling Rabbits Out of a Hat
by Sparks
Continuing their fruitful collaboration with producer Ian Little, the Mael brothers crafted a bright, heavily synthesized pop record. The arrangements lean heavily into Fairlight CMI sampling and upbeat, dance-oriented rhythms, backing Ron Mael's characteristically cynical and eccentric lyricism. While it failed to match the commercial heights of their previous effort, it remains a charmingly quirky entry in their mid-80s catalog.
