Cool for Cats
by Squeeze
Transitioning away from the straightforward pub rock of their debut, the London-based quintet embraced a distinctly British, sharply observant new wave sound. Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook's songwriting partnership blossomed, yielding tightly crafted pop narratives filled with witty, working-class character studies. The title track, featuring Difford's rare lead vocal delivery in a pronounced Cockney accent, became a massive domestic hit.
